Gardening at night?

Name of my favorite song, whose lyrics have delightfully no meaning at all, from my favorite band, R.E.M. Taken from their first EP, when there were shy beginners. Below in a live version happily messy.

The second one is another of my top son ever. Easy as it is a most well-known of a main artist of the 20th century. Recently I recalled how it describes so much of me.

I want to explain here why there's two films, and not how, where they have been made.
One is the mirror of the other one. The two films have exactly the same shots, but not in the same order. During the past week, it was impossible for me to know which of the two edits was the most accurate. I even don't want to decide which is the best title, between "Two takes" (the one in the films) or "Takes two" (the one of this post and we can say the one of this global "conceptual project").
It's up to you, you pick the first or the second, and watch the other one if you want to try.
For me, the films together may tell much more than only one of them. Somethink like what you thought was the end can now be the beginning, that an event can follow another or or be the souvenir of the other. That no matter you think it over, you never know what will come first and what will come next.

I made this video in Korea during a previous trip a couple of year ago, so it fits well in this blog even if it's not new material.
Some recent event reminds me of it, it's dedicated to a friend.

Here's briefly the story behind this video : me and a friend, Gilles, met by chance a girl at the Jeonju film festival.
She is a young manager of a company and a shop, quite famous and unique in Seoul, renting costumes for parties or events.
She told us she could make us enter for free at an upcoming event, the World DJ festival, if we agreed to be costumed, in order to promote her shop.
Why not? We just had to wear a traditionnal korean costume for the evening and that was it. We joked a little at the beginning about our costumes, then didn't notice and just enjoyed the night.
There was great people, the laidback atmosphere you may find in every rock festival in the world, sometimes great music, and very interesting moments to film and edit, such as a wonderful dance by a small group, in the middle of the film (the one in still picture before clicking on the video).

I happened to be on a filming set, invited by a friend producer, where Moon So-ri was acting.
She is one of the best actress in the world, for sure one of the top in Korea and one of the rare whose name is known abroad since Oasis (Lee Chang-dong) and A Good Lawyer's wife (Im Sang-soo). On a set she is delightful, joyful, extremely professionnal.
The shooting was like a kind of holiday in itself, made among friends. The director, Kim Tae-yong directed Moon So-ri in Family Ties, and the producer made Sakwa with her. The third friend was Jang Jun-hwan, director of Save the Green Planet. It was for a little short, "trailer" for the Green film festival. The original one is here, bottom of the page, third film.
The story of the film is a kind of big joke. There were indeed laughing after almost each take.
I've spend a few hours with them, warmly welcomed. Great afternoon really, and I'm very happy with what I've filmed of it.

But there was a few rules :
- To have a glance at the footage, I could only film the TV and the sound is from my camera. Then forgive everything about this quality, it would not have been possible instead. It is not what was filmed by the crew.
- I didn't filmed a quarter of the footage. Then what they have is ten times better than what I had. They have another angle for exemple.
- The producer asked me not to film Moon So-ri outside "Moon So-ri acting", meaning I could film the TV, but not her directly. I totally respected this condition.

When there are rules, editing is a game.
- In the making-of, there is no Moon So-ri, like if they're not making a film with her.
- In the "film", I choosed not to show the other actor until the very end. It could also be the choice of their film, which I didn't see yet.

It's such a pleasure to edit footage with a great actress. You understand at once what is the work of such an professionnal : everything can be used, nothing is bad. I had only a tiny part of the footage, a crap image, a crap sound, and still, I think she makes the film hold together. I learned a lot with these two little films.

It's a sentence I love so much, so poetic, so darkly romantic, could make a fabulous end for a novel or poem.

It was on a sheet which was supposed to tell... my future.
I got this sheet in a temple of Tokyo, like shown at the begnining (I like the girl who hesitates a lot before taking the sheet, you bet!). Of course it was a joke at it was totally random.
But still. The overwhelming amount af bad annoucements predicted on this sheet could make somebody commit suicide if you happen to be in a real bad shape...

This video is here, very short, very andecdotic but I'm happy there's a trace of this funny souvenir :

The occasion for putting it is the two videos below, more recently taken in Korea.

There are as much anecdotic, it's a same random game of fortune, but this time it says surprinsigly some things which are really true, or points precisely some subjects I'm focused on (like about my age).
And I very recently wondered if I was "lucky" or not. I think I am now.
There were also interesting to edit, and I had to work quite a lot on the color timing, as the lights in that bar were awful. Now the background is green, it's better than having Gilles in a horri mix of red and blue, as horrid as the scenery and music in the bar actually...

The first is "my" fortune (oh, sorry, it's in french...)

And this second is Gilles's one :
